Six labourers dead, 13 injured in Changlang
CHANGLANG, Jun 3: Six persons were killed while 13 persons including the driver received grievous injuries when a Tata 709 vehicle bearing registration No. AS-25-C-0691 carrying 18 tea leaves pickers fell into 70 feet deep gorge near 14 Mile of Margherita-Changlang Road here at around 4:30 PM on Thursday.
4 persons died on the spot while two other succumbed to their injuries at the District Hospital Changlang and Margherita Civil Hospital respectively. The driver also received fractures on both his hands and shoulders.
The vehicle, reportedly driven by one Narapati Das was returning from the tea garden of one Khongpong Tangha carrying tea leaves when all of a sudden it developed brake failure, hit the road-side hill and fell into the deep gorge.
The deceased were identified as; Prakash Nath (30), Radhika Dora (20), Monica Lakhara (25), Raulus Lakhara, Paulina Akka (30), Prahalad Gor (50), Shio Ekka (33).
Changlang PS OC, B Tangjang informed that a case no. 10/16 U/S 279/337/338/304 A IPC has been registered and investigation is being taken up. He further informed that post-mortems have been conducted and the dead bodies were handed over to the relatives of deceased to carry out the last rites.
The DIPRO adds: The 149 BN CRPF team, coming from Margherita were the first to notice the accident, who swiftly informed about it to its Battalion Hq at Changlang for help. A team of 149 BN CRPF led by its Assistant Commandant Maj. Lakhwinder Singh rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation, which lasted till 8 PM, saving many lives. They were later joined by the Police team from Changlang PS. The injured were instantly rushed to District Hospital, Changlang.
Changlang SP, Amit Sharma also visited the accident spot and met the injured and relatives of the deceased at the District Hospital Changlang.
NE floods, soil erosion is national calamity: Wangki Lowang
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: Arunachal Pradesh Speaker Wangki Lowang has asked the centre to declare the issue of floods and soil erosion in North East India as national calamity.
He said this at the 15th annual conference of North East Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (NERCPA) which was held from May 30- June 2 at Agartala, Tripura, inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
This year NERCPA had selected soil erosion in North East India and its impact on local populace and how political intervention could help resolves it as one of the topics. The other point for discussion was strengthening of NERCPA for further development of North East Region states.
Representatives from all the northeastern states including Sikkim attended the conference. The delegations from Arunachal Pradesh headed by Wangki Lowang, Speaker Legislative Assembly included Parliamentary Secretary Tax & Excise Zingnu Namchoom, MLA Tesam Pongte along with senior officials.
Mein appeals for central funds to set up State Commissioner PwDs
New Delhi, Jun 3: Deputy Chief Minister and Minister-in-charge for Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs, Chowna Mein on Thursday requested the Centre to provide necessary financial assistance for establishment of office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the state for proper and strict implementation of PwD Act.
Speaking at the conference of the Ministers and Secretaries on issues concerning to persons with disabilities at New Delhi, Mein regretted that due to paucity of funds, the Independent State Commissioner for PwDs could not be set up.
Mein informed that the State Department of Social Justice & Empowerment and Tribal Affairs has implemented the scheme called 'State Program for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities' (SPRPD) to redress the grievances of persons with disabilities and safeguard their rights, under which the State Disability Rehabilitation Centre (SDRC) and Physiotherapy Unit has been established.
The Minister also informed that the department has been distributing aids & appliances like Tricycle, Wheel Chair, Crutch, Walking Stick, Blind Stick to disabled persons at free of cost along with free Physiotherapy sessions to such patients.
In the education sector, he informed that the State Govt. has released grants of Rs.50 lakhs during last Financial Year for maintenance of Donyi-Polo Mission School for Hearing & Visually impaired, Chimpu, Itanagar while during the current financial year, the State Govt. has proposed for additional grants of Rs.40 lakhs for renovations of institutional buildings.
Under the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, the Department has written letters to all the Deputy Commissioners to submit the number of Identified Buildings to be covered so as to build accessibilities for Person with Disabilities.
Earlier, the conference was inaugurated by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thawarchand Gehlot.
Apart from various programmes and schemes of PwDs, the recent initiatives by the Government of India like National Action Plan for Skill development of persons with Disabilities, Unique Disability Identification cards and the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan or the Accessible India Campaign were discussed in the conference.
Meanwhile, the Centre urged the state governments to identify differently abled people in their respective areas for distribution of Universal Identity Cards to them to help them avail of benefits under various government schemes. These cards would be linked with Aadhar card and data will be available online which would ensure transparency. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) channel would be used to pass on the scholarships.
Mein assured that a state coordination committee meeting would be held to identify the same along with other important points like reservation of seat for PwDs in APST bus, barrier -Free access in Public transport system, clearance of backlog post of all the departments for appointment of PwDs under 3% reservation in all the department and the establishment of Braille Press Unit in the state.
Secretary, Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs, Talem Tapok and Deputy Director, WCD, Sandhya Roy Chowdhury also accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister to the conference.
The brave girl who stood up against forced marriage

ITANAGAR, Jun 3: Back in 2008, Jeroni Tawo was just five years old when negotiations for her marriage began to take place. Promised to a man much older than her, she was witnessing herself becoming a victim of the practice of child marriage. On May 31, she decided to take a stand and free herself.
Her story began when she was in the third standard and was promised to be married to Taling Pinche who was in his late twenties. Her father, Taru Tawo, had begun the process of accepting bride price from Pinche and the marriage was solemnised in 2013. This summer, when her vacation began, she was taken to Pata Cheda Village in Papu Valley in East Kameng district. Two weeks in, she escaped to freedom.
"She walked through thick forests to reach the deputy director's office to tell her story," informed Pooja Sonam Natung, general secretary of the East Kameng unit of Women Welfare Organisation.
Last year, the WWO had organised an awareness campaign on social evils including the archaic practice of child marriage. The campaign organisers had asked people to come forward and report cases of child marriage in that area. They had also given out the address of a WWO member in case they wished to approach them in private. While Jeroni could not muster the courage to do so last year, the campaign message, and more importantly the address of the WWO member stayed with her and it is there that she first reached.
Natung said that the 13-year old escaped in the morning of May 31 when everyone was asleep. The matter was brought to the attention of ICDS cell and together with the WWO and the East Kameng Social Cultural Welfare Organization began talks to arrange for her release from the marriage.
While it is clear that Jeroni is a victim of a practice that was much prevalent at one time, Pinche isn't exactly a villain.
Both Jeroni and Pinche are Puroiks, a community that has been marginalised for years. Awareness about their rights is less amongst the community members and yet, Pinche himself willingly accepted the decision taken during the meeting which ended today.
"It is a historic and bold decision by Pinche," Natung said from Seppa and added that "if someone from the Puroik community can stand up and take such a decision, why can't others".
The amount of bride price was fixed at Rs 1,12,500 which Pinche did not want returned to him. During most such cases when marriages are cancelled, the bride's family is required to return the bride price in full. In acknowledgement of his decision, Pinche was awarded Rs 40 thousand by the administration.
Natung said that child marriage is not prevalent in the urban areas of the district and that most people are against it. However, in some rural areas it is still practiced and Natung opines that many cases go unreported.
One of the challenges to abolish the practice entirely is to ensure that the victims do not find themselves in similar situations. Jeroni has gone on record to put down in writing that she will not get married before she turns 18.
Pul visits proposed Arunachal Sadan, Niwas
NEW DELHI, Jun 3:Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on Thursday inspected the construction sites for proposed Arunachal Sadan at Dheerpur in North Delhi and Arunachal Niwas at Dwarka in South-West Delhi.
The land for construction of two annexes to the Arunachal Bhawan was made available following an earlier request from the Chief Minister during a May 6 meeting with the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, who also heads the DDA.
The Chief Minister during the visit informed that these two projects will be taken up on mission mode and urged the DDA officials and the Delhi government to ensure necessary guidance and cooperation for the project. The DDA officials assured their full cooperation and support to accomplish these projects within stipulated time.

Changlang ZPMs dismisses APCC claims

Miao, Jun 3: Few days back the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC ) had stated that four of the seven Zilla Parishad Members (ZPMs) from Changlang who had defected from the Congress party and merged with the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) in last part of May had already been expelled. But the Show Cause Notice to the concerned ZPMs from the APCC signed by the General Secretary (in charge Panchayats) dated the May 16 surfaced only on May 31.
The ZPMs have out rightly dismissed the claim of the APCC and have pointed to the surfacing of the Show Cause Notice after their merger.
ZPMs Jowkhong Singpho (Miao), Korong Longri (Kharsang), Yaofu Yobin (Vijaynagar) and Pintri Singpho (Diyun) were expelled according to the APCC.
Meanwhile, the Member Secretary, Changlang Zilla Parishad has fixed conduct of the No Confidence Motion against the incumbent Zilla Parishad Chairperson Marina Kenglang on June 10 at Changlang. The Congress is reduced to two members including the incumbent ZPC while there are seven PPA ZPMs.
Bhunia asks students to take up research
YUPIA, Jun 3: NIT, Arunachal Pradesh Director, Prof. C T Bhunia urged upon young researchers and members of faculty to take up research as an integral part of teaching and innovation in the institute.
He was addressing the students and faculty on the inaugural day of a 2-day long Research Summit being organized at NIT, AP here on Friday.
The Director further expressed hope that the present Research Summit will build a foundation of cultivating and promoting deliverable, productive and quality research in the institute.
Two eminent professors namely; Prof. Karmeshu of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Prof. R.P Saini of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee delivered key-note speeches on mathematical modeling and renewable energy respectively.
About 40 research papers of various researchers will be presented in the summit.
Fund requirement for watershed development approved
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: The State Level Sanctioning Committee (SLSC) meeting on Thursday has approved the annual fund requirement on watershed development for 2016-17 under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).
The committee under Chief Secretary cum Chairman, Shakuntala Doley Gamlin resolved to make all the payments through Public Finance Management System (PFMS) at various levels including the wages payment besides updation of all the web based application like Management Information System (MIS), Public Finance Management System, Process Management System (PMS) and E-DPR regularly without any further delay.
It was also decided to initiate suitable action against the defaulters.
To review on progress of project implementation under PMKSY (Watershed development), the committee called for holding of review meeting with the Deputy Commissioners cum CEO Watershed Cell cum Data Center (WCDC) and Project Director cum Project Manager, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) of all the concerned districts quarterly.
In a presentation, the State Level Nodal Agency (SLNA), Technical Expert, Minmar Ronya highlighted on the State Prospective and Strategy Plan for the financial year 2016-17 and on the Physical & Financial Progress before finally placing the projected Annual Fund Requirement for 2016-17 before the Sanctioning Committee for approval.
Earlier, Commissioner (RD) cum Chairman State Level Nodal Agency (SLNA), Indra Mallo appraised the committee on implementation of PMKSY.
State Level Sanctioning Committee (SLSC) chaired by the Chief Secretary of the State has been vested with the authority to oversee implementation and sanction projects of PMKSY schemes in the State. PMKSY is to adopt a 'decentralized state level planning and project execution' structure that will allow states to draw up their own irrigation development plans based on District Irrigation Plan (DIP) and State Irrigation Plan (SIP). It will be operative as convergence platform for all water sector activities including drinking water & sanitation, MGNREGA, application of science & technology etc. through comprehensive plan.
Districts readies for Mission Indradhanush
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: Districts are getting for the Mission Indradhanush phase III, a vaccination programme.
Work dutifully and collectively as a team and ensure full immunization coverage under Mission Indradhanush (MI) in the district, said Lohit Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf.
Addressing the health officials and those entrusted for carrying out the third phase of the vaccination programme in a District Task Force meeting at his conference hall, on Friday, Ashraf called for creating proper awareness among the parents through various modes of publicity such as erecting posters and banners at important public locations highlighting the importance of vaccinations for their children. He directed the DRCHO to liaise with the DF&CSO for the awareness campaign.
He assured district administration's all help and assistance in achieving the target of total immunization.
Meanwhile, the DC has promised to look into matters related to infrastructural development of the sub-centres in the district on priority basis.
DMO Dr. Senjinlu Chai Pul highlighted on various schemes and policies under National Health Mission in Lohit.
Later, the DC, who came to the office on a bicycle, appealed to all to adopt 'cycle to work' on every 7th day of every month for a healthy lifestyle and a healthy environment.

Chairing the third District Task Force for Immunization meeting on Mission Indradhanush phase III held in the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner on Friday, Ziro ADC Nending Chatung lauded the untiring efforts of the health workers to provide immunization at the doorsteps and extended all logistic support from the district administration for maximum outreach. On learning about few refusal cases by parents because of symptoms like fever, he requested the education and ICDS departments to create awareness in the schools and Anganwadi centres.
DRCHO, Dr. Derin Likar presented the district performance in the first and second round of Mission Indradhanush phase III.
In the first round, 47% children and 39% pregnant women and in the second round 55.38% children and 54.39 pregnant women were immunized. He also informed that as per the micro-plan for round three, 315 children and 34 pregnant women will be the immunization target. The third round will be carried out on June 7.
Among others DMO, Dr Moli Riba, Dr.R.Anku, CDPO, Kina Taka, BRO, T.Pillia, DOM, N.Bado and others were present in the meeting.
Namsai Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma while reviewing the immunization coverage in the second round of Mission Indradhanush (phase- III) in a meeting, urged the medical officers to put an extra efforts to identify all left out children for vaccination during remaining rounds.
Sharma said that he was not at all satisfied with the performance. He, however opined that large number of floating population can be one of the one of the reasons for low coverage.
DMO Dr. Nani Rika instructed all medical officers in charges to be cautious about collection of data and preparation of micro plan and asked for timely submission of the same to District Office.
Earlier, DRCHO Dr. Pill Dipen informed the meeting about performance of the district during round and 1 and 2 of MI.
The meeting also reviewed various adolescent health programmes in the district.

Training-cum-workshop on online registration of marriage held
BOMDILA, Jun 3: A day-long training-cum-workshop on online registration of marriage was conducted at the conference hall here on Friday.
Addressing the HoDs, administrative officers and representatives of CSCs of the district, West Kameng DC, Sonal Swaroop said that the Supreme Court has made it mandatory for every individual to register their marriage.
While lauding the efforts of Bomdila, National Informatics Center, DIO, P.K.Thungon for launching the first online service in the state on May 20 last, she asked all the participants to make an effort from their end to register their marriages using the user-friendly application software.
The DIO also gave a detailed power point presentation on the Marriage Certificate software and informed that anyone could apply for the service from any part of the world provided there is internet connection. 'In the coming days, the certificate would be signed digitally and the applicants could download from their respective accounts. The applicant could also track the status of the application using the application ID which is generated automatically,' he said adding that the process cannot be completed unless the applicant pays the fees using the Challan which is generated automatically online. The applicant would get regular mails of the undergoing process. The time frame fixed for the application software is of 90 days. The notice and call letters are generated automatically which the applicant can view using his or her login IDs using track application link.
The ADC-cum-Marriage officer, P Sora also urged the participants and the administrative officers to organize workshop-cum-training programmes in their respective administrative blocks. He further informed that the same service would be facilitated from Jansuvidha counter in the coming days.

Central Dree Football tournament starts

ZIRO, Jun 3: MLA Tage Taki kicked off the 49th Central Dree Football Tournament at Dree Ground here on Friday amidst a huge gathering.
Earlier, in his inaugural speech the MLA who is also the Chairman of Central Dree Festival Committee (CDFC) suggested the participating teams to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
District Olympic Association, Secretary, Toko Soni and SP, Tage Habung also spoke on the occasion.
The inaugural match was played between last year's defending champion All Hija Sports Association (AHSA) and Diibo Football Club (DFC) in which former beat the later by 3-0 goals. Kago Lampung, Kime Dokho and Tani Tang of AHSA scored one goal each at 34th, 54th and 68th minutes respectively.
APIC impose penalty
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: The Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission has imposed penalty of Rs 25000/- on PIO cum DFO Mouling Division, Jengging, Upper Siang district for deliberately defying orders of the commission in connection with the appeal made by Geni Pangkam seeking information.
PIO cum Managing director, APSCAB Ltd has also been penalized pertaining to complaint made by one Tani Moyong.
Public restore bridge at Darak
AALO Jun 3: The collapsed iron bridge over Sebu River that connects Darak circle was restored by the public on self-help basis.
A mass social service was organized the Panchayat leaders and youths of Darak on May 30 to restore the bridge.
The departmental engineers are likely to visit Darak to take stock of the condition of the bridge.
It is pertaining to mention here that the Zirdo- Kadu and Wak- Nikte roads were repaired by public themselves recently without waiting for government to act. DIPRO
Org repair village roads
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: The Lebia Youth Welfare Association (LYWA) conducted 3 days social service from May 30. The village road from Sagalee to Lebia Panchayat was repaired during the day. The association informed that due to torrential rain Sagalee-Lebia road has deteriorated.
They further alleged that state government did not released fund for carpeting of the said stretch of road which has been constructed under PMGSY. The association has appealed Rural Works Department and present government to release fund for carpeting for the betterment of the people of Lebia Panchayat.
Students cry for teachers
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: All Pakke-Kessang Pijerang Dissing-Passo Seijosa Students' Union (APPDSSU) has demanded Director of Secondary Education to post two senior teachers for Mathematics and Chemistry at Government Higher Secondary School, Seijosa, East Kemeng district.
In a memorandum, the students union informed the DSE that the school is functioning without senior teachers for the two subjects for the last two academic sessions creating great problem to the students of Class XI and XII.
Further, non-posting of teachers is compelling the students to rely on private tutors from non-teaching staff from various govt. departments and private agencies, the students said.
World Blood Donors' Day
NAHARLAGUN, Jun 3: The World Blood Donors' Day (WBDD), themed ' blood connects us', would be observed this year on June 14 with a difference.
The Arunachal Pradesh State Blood Transfusion Council (STBC) in collaboration with Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti (AVYS) would observe the day as decided in a joint meeting here on Friday chaired by STBC Deputy Director Dr Nabam Budh.
With health & family welfare commissioner Hage Kojeen giving go ahead signal, the meeting decided to organise a rally by AVYS involving students, particularly Red Ribbon group of the Capital Complex, an interactive session in DDK besides steps to bring mass awareness.
The observation aims at extending gratitude to all blood donors for their humanitarian gesture to save dying lives, Dr Budh said, adding few prominent donors and motivators would be felicitated on the occasion.
Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society Deputy Director Tashor Pali assured full support for the event.
When AVYS adviser Pradeep Kumar asked about the fund position of the STBC, being the custodian of blood transfusion, Dr Budh regretted about inadequate fund allocation for the purpose.
The GoAP with zero tolerance policy for health sector needs to take adequate steps with funding for bringing mass awareness to facilitate the STBC and NGOs like AVYS to meet the rising demands for blood throughout the state.
MLA surrenders LPG subsidy
ITANAGAR, Jun 3 : The campaign for giving up LPG subsidy launched by IMC Chief Municipal Executive Officer (CMEO) Habung Lampung has started to bear fruit as Ziro MLA Tage Taki and few others surrendered their LPG subsidy on Friday.
After surrendering his LPG subsidy, MLA Taki appealed to all, who can afford to buy cylinder to give up the subsidy which would not only boost the country's economy but also help the poor who cannot afford to buy LPG cylinder at market price.
So far, 25 customers have surrendered their LPG subsidy since the launch of the campaign, informed the CMEO.
Those who are willing to surrender their subsidy can do it in their respective gas agencies, he added.
36 Bn CRPF celebrates raising day
KHONSA, Jun 3: The 36 Bn CRPF deployed in Tirap and Longding celebrated its 48th Raising Day here on June 1 with various programmes.
The 36 Bn. of the para-military force was raised in 1968 after merger of the 2nd Bn. of PAC.
The Commandant of the 36th battalion P.Jonnes while addressing the jawans on the occasion said the primary objective of the battalion is to restore peace in Tirap and Longding districts. He urged them to be punctual, alert and responsible force.
The local people of Tirap and Longding districts are peace-loving and law-abiding but they are being disturbed by underground groups from other states, he said.
The quarter guard was attended by Deputy Commandant RA Shukla and other Officers.
DG of CRPF Durga Prasad has also conveyed his wishes to the officers and all ranks of the battalion on its raising day.
A friendly volleyball match, cultural programmes and a grand feast marked the raising day celebrations.
BJS Sial was the first Commandant of the battalion. It was first deployed in Nagaland. After assessing its performance the name 'Brigade Battalion' was given to it by the then Sector Commander of the Indian Army. The battalion has done commendable service in different fields all over the country both during peace and trouble times.
The headquarters of the battalion is presently at Khonsa in Tirap district under the control of DIG, Operations in Dibrugarh, Assam. The Coys are deployed in Tirap and Longding districts which are under the grip of insurgency.
P.Jonnes took over the command of the battalion on June 29, 2013 as the 28th Commandant of the battalion.
APPA celebrates Ummang Festival
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: The Arunachal Pradesh Paralympic Association (APPA) celebrated Ummang Festival with various programmes and by distributing aid and appliances to differently abled persons at Nyikum Niya Hall, Nirjuli from May 25 to June 2.
Eight Wheel Chairs, two Crutches, five hearing aid, 10 walking sticks were distributed to differently abled persons on the occasion.
Sports (volleyball), cultural and essay competitions were also organized and prizes were given to the winners and runners up.

PRIs split on transfer of officer
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: ZPM Monigong Tachi Hemi has alleged the EAC cum BDO Monigong Gamtum Padu of misusing various projects without the knowledge of PRI leaders.
In his letter to the chief secretary, he has demanded that the BDO be transferred from the area and to initiate legal action against him.
Meanwhile in another statement, Anchal Chairperson of Monigong Yadom Yapo condemned the allegations leveled against the official.
'The EAC is an upright and honest officer who is known for his strong administration. He involves all the PRI leaders' right from planning stage to implementation, monitoring and supervision. As such there is no space for mismanagement of any fund as alleged,' she said claiming that the move is politically motivated and has been initiated by the ZPM.
'Matters of development should be left to the panchayat leaders who are more than competent to decide what is bad and what is good in development processes and activities,' she added and urged AdiSU to refrain from indulging without knowing the fact. AdiSU West Siang unit had sought transfer of the officer citing fund mismanagement.
RK Sanyal dies in Kolkata
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: Retired Chief Engineer (CE) of RWD, Itanagar RK Sanyal died on June 2 at his residence in Kolkata, West Bengal.
Sanyal joined in the department in 1971 as Assistant Engineer (Agri.) and rendered nearly 25 years of services in various capacities and is considered as one of the pioneer and architects of Rural Works Department in the State.
He was promoted to the post of CE, RWD in 1993 and remained in the post until he took voluntary retirement in 1996.
The officers and officials of RWD, (HQ) deeply mourned his sudden demise and conveyed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family. They observed two minutes silence in the office premises on Friday and prayed to almighty rest his departed soul in peace.
Skill development training under BADP
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: The 2-month-long Skill Development and Capacity Building Training Programme on Automobile (Mechanics) for the youths of Kurung Kumey district under Border Area Development Programme (BADP) and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) concluded at Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic here on Friday.
The programme was designed and conducted by the Department of Automobile Engineering with industrial support from Maya Motors Pvt. Ltd. Itanagar.
Addressing the trainees on the valedictory function, Dr. J.P Pandey of the polytechnic stressed on developing skills of youths to make them employable. He advised the trainees to utilize the knowledge and skills they have gained during the training period for self-employment.
The training was imparted both on theoretical and practical aspects of automobile technology and service/maintenance. The trainees were imparted hands on practice on repairing of running vehicles at Maya Motors for six weeks, informed coordinator of the training Devarasiddappa, who also is HoD (I/c), AUE.
The trainees were also made aware of various self employment opportunities in the automotive industry.
District Training Coordinator, Koloriang Bamang Chai urged the trainees use the skills as tool and opportunity to earn livelihood.
Manager (HR) of Maya Motors K. Chetia offered employment for trainees as assistant mechanic at Maya Motors and expressed the desire to support such training programs in future also.
Taba Tath, HoD I/c (TTM) also shared his experience and stressed on such training programs to make the local youth employable.
Coordination meeting
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: The block level coordination meeting for headmaster/teacher-in-charge of Palin Educational Block was convened on June 3 at Palin, wherein issues regarding academic progress of schools were discussed.
Further, the meeting directed all the headmasters, teacher in-charges of various schools under Palin Educational Block to stay at their respective schools from June one failing which action will be initiated against them.
The BEO, BRCC and CRCC were present in the meeting.
'Release pending salary'
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: The Arunachal Pradesh ATMA Association (APAA) has requested for early release of its pending five month's salary along with the 10 percent increment. It has written to the Director and Commissioner, Agriculture in this regard.
Re-advertise all posts: AACU
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: The Arunachal Anti-Corruption Union (AACU) has requested the Health Department to re-advertise all the posts of district coordinator, data entry operator claiming that some of the posts have not been mentioned in the advertisement.
'The department should make the actual vacancy public so that unemployed youths can participate in the interview process,' it said in its letter to the Director, Health Services.
Association seeks arrest of culprits
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: Alleging man handling of the District Agriculture Officers (DAO) of Namsai and Tezu by some local goons in Itanagar in a hotel in the intervening night of May 25 and 26, Central and Eastern Youth Association of Arunachal (CEYAA) demanded immediate arrest of those culprits involved in the incident.
The officers were man-handled when they arrived in the state capital to attend a departmental review meeting called by the Directorate of Agriculture.
Condemning act, the Association also demanded stringent punishment for them.
Governor congratulates Karatekas
ITANAGAR, Jun 3: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh JP Rajkhowa has congratulated the martial artists from the state who brought laurels for the state in the 19th All India Wado-Kai National Championship held at Gangtok, Sikkim on May 28 and 29.
Commending the sportsperson, the Governor expressed hope that the youth of the state will continue to display their talents in games and sports competitions and bring laurels for the state and nation. He also conveyed his best wishes to the players and coaches for their future challenges.
Awareness programme on Dengue and Malaria
PASIGHAT, Jun 3: An awareness programme on Dengue and Malaria was organised on Friday at the Gandhi Chowk Rostrum, Pasighat main market by the health department.
Addressing the gathering, East Siang DC, Isha Khosla said that as chances of Dengue and Malaria outbreak in Pasighat township prevails, early preventive measures should be taken with community participation to prevent or eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites.
The DC added that the role of community is very vital as most of the mosquitoes breeding centre are mostly in the man-made environment like drainages, storage tanks etc.
While seeking cooperation from all to improve the strategies for better prevention, control and treatment of Malaria and Dengue, she said medical department is taking certain measures, while Municipal Council, NGOs and local community should join to make the source reduction mission successful.
Later, the DC along with government officers and local leaders poured Temephos (Mosquito Larva destroying medicine) in few vulnerable places.
Earlier, DMO, Dr. M. Perme informed that Malaria and Dengue Fever is the second most widespread mosquito-borne disease in the world. Report of 2014 of Pasighat was a wake-up call for his department. Adequate measures were taken last year on prevention and control strategies to avoid an outbreak. Vector control is the backbone of Dengue prevention and good environmental management, effective solid waste management and better management of water and water resources are key elements of vector control.
The DMO advised the people to use bed-net/LLIN on regular basis and further appealed to cooperate during spraying and fogging as a part of source reduction exercises.
DVBD Control Officer, Dr. T Riso Talom explained the basics of Dengue. He also apprised about the steps taken by the department for prevention of Dengue in Pasighat township area. Presenting a brief report Riso informed that 1907 positive cases of Dengue were recorded in 2105 in East Siang but fortunately there was no death reported. DIPRO
FLWA adopts resolution
ITANAGAR, June 3: The Former Legislator's Welfare Association (FLWA) in a meeting held here on Thursday adopted certain resolutions pertaining to the welfare of ex-MLAs. As decided in the meeting which was attended by 48 ex-MLAs, they would meet the CM soon to submit their grievances.

PM Modi’s visit to Switzerland assumes significance in the wake of India’s effort to bring back black money stashed in various banks abroad including in Swiss bank. India already has received support from the Swiss authorities on exchange of data and it hopes to engage with Switzerland in automatic exchange of information as early as possible. Visit of PM Modi will give more impetus to the effort of bringing back the black money. However it is Modi’s second visit to US in the last two year which is of huge importance. New Delhi has quietly submitted its formal application for membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group ( NSG) ahead of PM Narendra Modi's visit to the US. China has been strongly opposing the Indian entry and has been demanding for inclusion of Pakistan into NSG. India is hoping on US to persuade China to come on the board. Indian diplomats are pinning hope on strong personal relation between PM Modi and President Barack Obama to get the things done.

Children and nature
Dear Editor,
Creative abilities of children are developed under the integrated influence of words, color and music through all stages of children's ecological education. The key to successful development of ecological consciousness in children is organizing regular interaction of children with nature and creation of environmentally friendly surroundings such as ecological parks, nature corners, kitchen gardens and flower beds in kindergartens and schools along with the involvement of the parents in the process. Some tested means of ecological education among children is introduction of ecological concepts through integrated variety of learning activities such as outdoor plays, listening to music, watching animals and plants in their natural habitats, drawing pictures, acting, reading nature and animal related fairy tales and moral stories to solving moral dilemmas to inculcate a feeling and awareness regarding the environment. The goal should be to teach children to avoid negative behavior towards the nature and instead develop a sense of caring and protecting local environment and ecosystems. Habits of responsible consumerism and waste disposal must be formed during preschool and school years. The formation of such habits can be fulfilled by joint efforts of both teachers and parents. Special guidelines for parents and teachers involved in ecological education should play an important role in this process.

Pay the genuine PDS contractors
Dear Editor,
This is with reference to the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union’s (AAPSU) questioning the state government over the government’s alleged move to pay off the pending PDS bills of only a handful of influential persons, including legislators who are part of the ruling government.
I completely support the AAPSU’s stand in the matter, since the government’s alleged move smacks of partiality towards a chosen few. There are scores of other PDS contractors in the state whose pending bills are yet to be cleared. If the government plans to release the payments, it should release payments to all the PDS contractors, especially to those who have done their work honestly.
I appeal to His Excellency, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, to intervene in the matter, so that justice is done to the state’s suffering PDS contractors and they are not deprived of their rightful earnings.
